  • Starting from September 2023, Bank Nifty Futures & Options (F&O) contracts will expire on Wednesdays, while Midcap Nifty F&O contracts will expire on Mondays.

  • The change for Bank Nifty contracts will be implemented from September 4, 2023, and the first Wednesday weekly expiry will occur on September 6, 2023.

  • The monthly expiry day for Bank Nifty contracts will remain unchanged and continue to be on Thursdays.

  • All weekly Bank Nifty contracts will expire on Wednesdays, except for the expiry week of the monthly contract. If Wednesday is a trading holiday, the expiry day will be the previous trading day.

  • The trading cycle for BANKNIFTY will continue to have 4 weekly expiration contracts (excluding monthly contracts), 3 monthly expiration contracts, and 3 quarterly expiries (March, June, September & December cycles).

  • For Midcap Nifty contracts, both weekly and monthly contracts will expire on Mondays. If Monday is a trading holiday, the expiry day will be the previous trading day.

  • Existing futures and options contracts for Midcap Nifty will have their expiry/maturity date preponed to Monday starting from August 21, 2023. The first Monday expiry will occur on August 21, 2023.

  • The expiry cycle for August 16, 2023, will remain on Wednesday.

  • The National Stock Exchange (NSE) decided not to shift the expiry day for Nifty Bank F&O contracts to Friday, following a request from the rival exchange BSE.
